Municipality of Savitaipale is located in South Karelia in a strategically favorable location. The town center is right alongside Highway 13. The distance from Savitaipale to the nearest city, Lappeenranta, which includes a railway station and an airport, is 37 km. The distance to Helsinki is approximately 200 km, to Kouvola about 80 km, and to to Mikkeli 70 km

The natural landscape of Savitaipale is generally considered diverse and beautiful. Steep ridges, expansive heathlands, clear lakes, spring-fed forest ponds, swamps, and rocks alternate in surprising harmony. Even the local variations in elevation are significant by Southern Finnish standards.

Savitaipale town is located on the shores of the clear-watered lake Kuolimo, on the inner edge of the Salpausselkä ridge. The northern edge of the ridge rises occasionally up to 40 meters in height, offering unique and varied landscapes. Savitaipale's neighboring municipalities include Lemi, Luumäki, Kouvola, Mäntyharju, Mikkeli, Puumala, and Taipalsaari.
